No Start But Cranks Checklist for OBD-II Vehicles

Use this order to narrow a crank-no-start problem toward signal loss, timing correlation, purge flooding, or other code-backed root causes.

Guide step

Confirm cranking speed and battery voltage

A weak battery can create misleading low-voltage and sync symptoms, so establish a solid cranking baseline first.

Guide step

Check for RPM and sync

If the scan tool shows no RPM while cranking or sync never goes ready, crank and cam signal faults move to the front.

Guide step

Use complaint context

A no-start right after refueling points toward purge flooding, no-start with chain noise points much harder at timing correlation trouble, and a flashing security light pushes immobilizer or key-programming faults much higher than fuel-pump guessing.
